To see my old socks you might think it's a shame
To have patches on patches on patches again
But there's no new pair that would fit me the same
And these socks have a warmth that I just can't explain
(so I'll)
Darn those socks anyway, they're all full of holes
And my feet would get cold on the floor
I've kept 'em for years 'til they've near disappeared
But they'll still last another year more
This house is still learning electricity
There are squeaks in the floor and a draft at the door
It's seen 1890 and 2003
But they built it to last out a century more
(and it's)
Darn those socks anyway, they're all full of holes
And my feet would get cold on the floor
I've kept 'em for years 'til they've near disappeared
But they'll still last another year more
They'll soon call my car classic or vintage but still
It's been changed from the muffler on up to the grill
If I kept it running for a decade or two
Would it still be this old car or would it be new?
It drinks gasoline and its fumes warm the air
But it's not I don't worry, it's not I don't care
Just that I can't afford what I wish that I could
If we all could drive hybrids, now that would be good...
Now some of my tools may be shiny and new
But my favourites were old in my grandfather's day
With palm-burninshed handles and steel sharp and true
And in time to my children I'll give them away
(and it's)
Darn those socks anyway, they're all full of holes
And my feet would get cold on the floor
I've kept 'em for years 'til they've near disappeared
But they'll still last another year more
You might think our love's seen the best of its days
For the flames seldom blind us as when it was new
But a deep bank of coals holds more warmth than a blaze
And the one in my finest of dreams is still you
(and it's)
Darn those socks anyway, they're all full of holes
And my feet would get cold on the floor
I've kept 'em for years 'til they've near disappeared
But they'll still last another year more
